Siberia saves new Russian wheat crop

Russian farmers have harvest 71 mmt of wheat in bunker weight and Siberian yields are great

As of September 16, Russian farmers harvested 71.1 mmt of wheat (82.5 mmt in 2020) from 24.7 mln ha (26.5 mln ha), with average yields of 2.88 mt/ha (3.12 mt/ha).

Siberia, the biggest spring wheat grower, continues to report good yields of around 2 mt/ha (+18% YOY). The region is the biggest grower of spring wheat in Russia with a total wheat area of 5.6 mln ha. Siberia was fortunate to get ample precipitation in the second half of the summer which converted into good / record-high yields in many regions.

SovEcon expects Siberia to harvest 10.7 mmt of wheat this year (+1 mmt YOY), the highest number in 12 years. Good Siberian crop partly offsets poor crops we’ve seen in the Volga Valley and the Center this year.

Earlier this month SovEcon revised the Russian wheat crop higher by 0.2 mmt to 75.6 mmt thanks to good yields in Siberia. USDA estimates the new Russian wheat crop at 72.5 mmt.
