On Wednesday, grain futures rose. The December SRW wheat contract closed at $5.89/bu ($216/mt; +1.9% compared to Tuesday). The December HRW wheat contract in Kansas City increased to $5.81/bu ($213/mt; +1.8%). The December Euronext wheat contract closed at €220.50/mt ($245/mt; +0.8%). The December U.S. corn contract rose to $4.15/bu ($164/mt; +0.9%).
The USDA reported that exporters sold 180,000 tons of corn to Mexico.
From September 1 to 25, Ukraine exported 2.3 million tons of grain, compared to 2.7 million tons during the same period last year. Since the beginning of the season, a total of 9.8 million tons of grain have been shipped from Ukraine, up from 6.2 million tons a year ago.
As of late September, only 8.3 million hectares of winter grains have been sown, compared to 9.3 million hectares a year ago and an average of the past five years. This marks the lowest level since 2013. According to SovEcon experts, the pace of grain planting lags behind average figures due to unfavorable weather in the main winter grain growing regions.
