Grain futures rose on Tuesday. The March SRW wheat contract closed at $5.45/bu ($200/mt; +1.8% compared to Monday). The March HRW wheat contract in Kansas City rose to $5.61/bu ($206/mt; +1.4%). The March Euronext wheat contract closed at €229.00/mt ($239/mt; +1.9%). The March corn contract climbed to $4.85/bu ($191/mt; +0.7%).
USDA reported sales of 132,000 mt of corn to South Korea.
The European Commission does not plan to extend the special preferential trade regime with Ukraine after June 5, Polish radio station RMF24 reported, citing sources in Brussels. According to EU Agriculture Commissioner Christophe Hansen, a new trade framework will be established under the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA). The DCFTA may set new quotas for the export and import of various goods, including Ukrainian agricultural products.
The European Commission has proposed tariffs on agricultural imports and nitrogen fertilizers from Russia and Belarus. The new tariffs will affect 15% of agricultural imports that were previously exempt from duties.
