Grain futures were mostly steady on Monday. December SRW wheat closed at $5.19/bu ($191/mt; unchanged from Friday). December HRW wheat rose to $5.08/bu ($187/mt; +0.6%). December Euronext wheat settled at €188.50/mt ($221/mt; -0.5%). December U.S. corn declined to $4.21/bu ($166/mt; -0.1%).
As of September 28, U.S. winter wheat planting was 34% complete, compared to 35% expected by the market and the five-year average of 36%, according to USDA data.
U.S. corn harvest was 18% complete as of September 28, below the market estimate of 20% and the five-year average of 20%, USDA reported.
On Tuesday, the USDA will release its quarterly grain and oilseed stocks report. Market participants estimate U.S. corn stocks at 34.0 mmt, down from 44.8 mmt a year earlier. Wheat stocks are estimated at 55.6 mmt, up from 54.2 mmt in 2024.
The USDA reported exporters sold 136 tmt of corn to Mexico and another 111 tmt to unknown destinations.
