U.S. grain futures declined on Wednesday. The December SRW wheat contract closed at $5.28/bu ($194/mt; -1.1% from Tuesday). The December HRW wheat contract fell to $5.16/bu ($190/mt; -1.4%). The December Euronext wheat contract settled at €192.25/mt ($227/mt; +0.5%). The December U.S. corn contract dropped to $4.27/bu ($168/mt; -0.7%).
Canada’s StatCan raised its 2025 wheat production estimate by 1.0 mmt to 36.6 mmt, citing higher yields. Last year, the country harvested 35.9 mmt of wheat.
Between September 1 and 17, Ukraine exported 1.4 mmt of grain, down from 1.8 mmt a year earlier, according to the Economy Ministry. Total exports since the start of the season reached 5.5 mmt, compared with 9.3 mmt a year ago.
Between July 1 and September 14, the EU shipped 3.8 mmt of soft wheat, down from 5.7 mmt a year earlier, according to European Commission data. Export figures for France, Bulgaria, and Ireland remain incomplete, analysts noted.
SovEcon has raised its forecast for Russian wheat production in 2025 by 1.1 mmt to 87.2 mmt. The figure is expected to be well above last year’s 82.6 mmt and close to the multi-year average of 88.3 mmt. The revision follows record-high yields in Siberia and the Urals.
