Grain futures were mostly stable on Monday. December SRW wheat rose to $5.05/bu ($185/mt; +0.2% from Friday). December HRW wheat in Kansas closed at $4.90/bu ($180/mt; -0.3%). December Euronext wheat declined to €188.50/mt ($219/mt; -0.4%). December US corn closed at $4.23/bu ($167/mt; +0.2%).

According to analysts surveyed by Reuters, the US corn harvest was 59% complete, up from 44% the previous week and 65% a year ago. The share of corn rated good or excellent was 63%, down from 64% the previous week. The USDA has not published official figures due to the government shutdown.

Analysts estimated US winter wheat planting at 75% complete, up from 66% a week earlier and 73% last year.

Brazil’s first-crop corn planting was 33% complete, in line with 32% a year ago and slightly below the five-year average of 34%, according to Conab.

Australian wheat crop estimates were raised by an average of 0.5 mmt to 35.7 mmt, a Reuters survey showed, due to better-than-expected yields in western regions. Last year’s crop totaled 34.1 mmt.

Algeria’s state grain agency OAIC issued an international tender to purchase a nominal 50,000 t of soft wheat of optional origin for delivery in November–December, European traders reported. Bids are due October 22.

As of October 20, Ukrainian farmers had planted 3.8 mln ha of winter grains, down from 4.3 mln ha a year earlier, according to the country’s Economy Ministry.
