Grain futures were mostly higher on Wednesday. December SRW wheat closed at $5.09/bu ($187/mt; +0.2% from Tuesday). December HRW wheat slipped to $4.95/bu ($182/mt; -0.4%). December Euronext wheat settled at €187.75/mt ($220/mt; +0.8%). December U.S. corn rose to $4.16/bu ($164/mt; +0.2%).
Ukraine’s Ministry of Economy raised its forecast for winter wheat planting area for the 2026 crop to 5.2 mln ha, up from 4.8 mln ha in September and a year earlier. Deputy Economy Minister Taras Vysotsky noted that some sunflower and corn growers in the south may switch to wheat next year due to poor crops.
U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet in four weeks to discuss China’s halt in purchases of U.S. soybeans, a U.S. official said. China accounts for a significant share of U.S. soybean exports, but shipments to the country have been zero in recent months.
As of September 26, average wheat yield in Siberia reached 2.7 mt/ha compared with 2.2 mt/ha a year earlier and a five-year average of 1.9 mt/ha, SovEcon said. Wheat yield in Siberia is at record high due to favorable weather through most of the season.
