Wheat prices declined on Tuesday. The July SRW wheat contract closed at $5.28/bu ($194/mt; -2.6% from Friday). The July HRW wheat contract in Kansas dropped to $5.24/bu ($193/mt; -2.6%). The September Euronext wheat contract settled at €201.25/mt ($228/mt; -2.1% from Monday). The July U.S. corn contract remained unchanged at $4.59/bu ($181/mt).
For the week ending May 22, U.S. wheat export inspections totaled 562 tmt, above the market estimate of 300–500 tmt, according to USDA data.
U.S. spring wheat planting was 87% complete, compared to the market estimate of 90% and 87% a year earlier, USDA reported. Corn planting was also at 87%, slightly below the 88% market estimate but ahead of last year’s 81%.
The share of U.S. winter wheat in good to excellent condition stood at 50%, down from 52% the previous week and below the 53% market estimate. The first rating for spring wheat showed 45% of the crop in good to excellent condition, compared to the market estimate of 71%.
