Grain prices declined on Friday. The May SRW wheat contract closed at $5.57/bu ($207/mt; -1.0% compared to Thursday). The May HRW wheat contract in Kansas fell to $5.86/bu ($215/mt; -0.2%). The May Euronext wheat contract settled at €223.50/mt ($243/mt; -1.1%). The May U.S. corn contract dropped to $4.58/bu ($181/mt; -1.5%).

During the spring planting campaign, nearly 100,000 hectares of land in Russia were sown with spring grains, Russian Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut reported on March 14.

As of March 13, Ukraine had sown nearly 83,000 hectares of spring grains, or 1.4% of the projected area, according to the country’s Ministry of Agrarian Policy. A year earlier, 128,100 hectares, or 2.3% of the forecasted area, had been planted.

From July 1 to March 14, Ukraine shipped 30.8 mmt of grain, including 1.7 mmt in March, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy. A year earlier, 32.3 mmt had been shipped, of which 2.6 mmt was exported in March.

The USDA reported that exporters sold 219,000 mt of corn to unknown destinations.
