Grain futures were mostly higher on Thursday. May SRW wheat settled at $5.98/bu ($220/mt; +0.6% vs. Wednesday). May HRW wheat was unchanged at $6.13/bu ($225/mt). May Euronext wheat closed at €209.25/mt ($241/mt; +1.6%). May U.S. corn rose to $4.62/bu ($182/mt; +0.5%).
For the week ended Feb. 26, U.S. exporters sold 0.46 mmt of wheat versus market expectations of 0.20-0.40 mmt, USDA data showed. Corn sales totaled 1.50 mmt versus expectations of 0.80-2.20 mmt.
Expana (Strategie Grains) cut its forecast for 2025/26 EU soft wheat exports for a fifth straight month, trimming it by 0.4 mmt to 27.1 mmt. The March downgrade was linked to the war in the Middle East. Exports are still seen above 24.8 mmt last season.
Argentina’s corn harvest was 9.4% complete as of March 11 versus 8.1% a year earlier, according to the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange. About 61% of the crop was rated good or excellent, up from 55% a week earlier and 58% a year ago.
In France, the share of soft wheat rated good or excellent held at 84% for a second straight week as of March 9, FranceAgriMer data showed. The figure was 74% a year earlier.
FOB prices for Russian wheat rose to $237/mt this week, according to SovEcon data, the highest level since $238/mt in August last year. Prices were supported by stronger futures and firmer export quotes from key competitors.
