On Friday, grain futures were mostly steady. Chicago SRW wheat for March settled at $5.17/bu ($190/mt; -0.2% from Thursday). Kansas City HRW wheat for March held at $5.30/bu ($195/mt; unchanged). Euronext wheat for March settled at €191.75/mt ($223/mt; +0.1%). U.S. corn for March slipped to $4.46/bu ($175/mt; -0.1%).

Ukraine’s exports of major grains (wheat, barley and corn) in December totaled 3.0 mmt, down from 3.5 mmt a year earlier, according to the State Customs Service’s data.

The FAO food price index in December fell 0.8 points from November to 124.3. The FAO cereal price index rose 1.8 points month to month to 107.3.

Dry weather may have damaged Argentina’s corn crop in northern La Pampa province and western Buenos Aires province, according to the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange. Up to 100 millimeters of rain may fall in the areas in the coming days, which could improve crop conditions.

Russia’s wheat export tax will be set at zero from Jan. 14, versus 97.3 rubles per metric ton on Jan. 12-13, the Agriculture Ministry said.
