Grain futures declined on Wednesday. The December SRW wheat contract closed at $5.24/bu ($193/mt; -1.4% from Tuesday). The December HRW wheat contract fell to $5.13/bu ($188/mt; -0.9%). The December Euronext wheat contract settled at €194.00/mt ($226/mt; -0.6%). The December U.S. corn contract dropped to $4.06/bu ($160/mt; -0.8%).
Above-average summer temperatures will persist across nearly all of Russia through the end of August, said Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center.
Ukraine’s corn crop may total around 28 mmt, according to Taras Vysotskyi, deputy minister of economy, environment, and agriculture. Last year, the country harvested 26.9 mmt of corn. The total grain crop is estimated at 56 mmt, roughly in line with last year.
Bulgaria’s corn crop is expected to match or fall below last year’s level, said Ilia Prodanov, head of the National Association of Grain Producers. Farmers harvested about 1.6 mmt of corn in 2024, one of the lowest totals on record.
Australia’s wheat crop is forecasted at 32–35 mmt, according to analysts surveyed by Reuters. That’s roughly in line with last year’s 34.1 mmt and well above the average of 27.6 mmt.
Russian 12.5% wheat bids fell by 750 rub to 16,150 rub/mt ($201/mt) last week, SovEcon’s price monitoring showed. Exporters lowered prices for the first time since early June amid weak demand, relatively high production pace, and declining export prices.
