Grain futures were mostly higher on Monday. The December SRW wheat contract closed at $5.30/bu ($195/mt; +0.5% from Friday). The December HRW wheat contract fell to $5.21/bu ($191/mt; -0.1%). The December Euronext wheat contract settled at €195.50/mt ($227/mt; +0.9%). The December U.S. corn contract rose to $4.12/bu ($162/mt; +0.2%).

A state of emergency may be introduced in 10 of 54 districts in Russia’s Bashkortostan region due to waterlogged soil, Agriculture Minister of the region Ilshat Fazrakhmanov said.

The EU’s crop monitoring service MARS raised its EU wheat yield estimate to 6.15 mt/ha from 6.09 mt/ha a month earlier. The corn yield forecast was lowered to 6.93 mt/ha from 7.18 mt/ha.

U.S. wheat exports totaled 0.9 mmt in the week ending August 21, above market expectations of 0.4–0.6 mmt, according to USDA data.

The U.S. winter wheat harvest was 98% complete, in line with the five-year average, the USDA said. Spring wheat harvest was 53% complete, compared with 52% expected and 54% on average.

The share of spring wheat rated good or excellent stood at 49%, slightly below both the market estimate and the previous week’s 50%, the USDA said. Corn ratings held steady at 71%, in line with the previous week and slightly above the 70% market forecast.

Iran’s state grain agency GTC purchased an unspecified volume of wheat last week, with a significant portion expected to be sourced from Russia, traders said.
