Grain prices declined on Monday. The May SRW wheat contract closed at $5.47/bu ($201/mt; -1.5% from Friday). The May HRW wheat contract in Kansas fell to $5.55/bu ($204/mt; -2.3%). The May Euronext wheat contract settled at €214.25/mt ($243/mt; -1.8%). The May U.S. corn contract dropped to $4.85/bu ($191/mt; -1.1%).
As of April 13, U.S. farmers had planted 4% of their projected corn area, compared with 6% expected by the market and 6% a year earlier, according to USDA data.
Winter wheat conditions in the U.S. were rated good or excellent on 47% of the area as of April 13, matching market expectations but below last year’s figure of 55%.
As of April 10, U.S. corn exports totaled 1.8 million metric tons (mmt), exceeding the market estimate of 1.0–1.6 mmt. Wheat exports over the same period amounted to 0.6 mmt, above the estimate of 0.2–0.5 mmt.
USDA reported exporters sold 120 thousand metric tons (tmt) of wheat to Japan.
Algeria’s OAIC will hold a tender on April 16 to purchase a nominal 50 tmt of soft wheat, European traders said.
